Mercury Cougar

In the winter of 2001, John Mihovetz was toying with the idea of building a new race car for the 2002 season.

His idea quickly turned into reality and the game was on! The Mercury Cougar Jerry Haas carbon fiber body arrived shortly thereafter for beginning customization.

Many man-hours later, the Cougar is ready to paint.

Building this race car in-house was quite the challenge but in the end was a very rewarding experience for the entire staff at Accufab.

Mihovetz' original plans entailed racing in NHRA Sport Compact Series. However, by the seasons end, NHRA eliminated the V8 class and Mihovetz made the change to NHRA Competition Eliminator.

Racing is a family affair!

The Mercury Cougar is powered by a SHM 4.6L Mod Motor and is the first to race in the 6's!!

Mike Zellner joins the Accufab Race team and helps out on the road as well as full-time in the race shop.

Mihovetz holds 2 NHRA Records in Comp Eliminator. His quickest pass was 6.49 @ 215mph in July 2007. Also, the Accufab race team is finding continued success racing the Pro 5.0 class at FFW events.

Breaking the Engine...Big time!

How did he do that?! It all began on the engine dyno at Westech Performance Group in Mira Loma, California. This engine had seen over 80 passes in 15 days. In this instance, after hours of grueling tests, the wrist pin broke and literally split through the engine and billet oil pan.
